Can I arrive to my massage appointment early?
Welcome to Elite Male Massage. Please arrive on time at your appointment and not early. Elite Male Massage would like to remind your that we are a home-based massage practice. Please have the courtesy to allow our staff to set-up for your massage appointment. Please do not arrive before your appointment time.

Our staff have the right to carry out their work without violence, abuse or harassment. Any behaviour, verbal or physical, which causes staff to feel uncomfortable, embarrassed or threatened, is totally unacceptable. We have a client or guest behaviour policy on which we have zero tolerance, and we enforce it strictly.
What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
Your massage therapist may require you to fill out a client history form. Afterwards the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on. The therapist will also ask if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and determine what massage treatment is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints.
It is important to list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so the therapist is aware if he needs to use a different oil or lotion during the session.
Do I have to cover myself with a sheet or towel?
Once you are undressed and on the table under the drape, the male massage therapist will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. You will be properly covered or draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. No areas will be exposed without your consent. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable for any reason during your massage session.
What do I do during a massage treatment?
Make yourself comfortable. If your massage therapist wants you to adjust your position, he will either move you or ask you to move what’s needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
How long will a massage treatment last?
Many people prefer a 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Elite Male Massage offer 30 min, 60 min and 90 min massage sessions. Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the session.
Will the massage hurt?
This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A light, relaxing massage that doesn't probe very deep into the muscles, shouldn't hurt. With that being said, there is a 'feels good' hurt and an 'ouch, stop it' hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the 'feels good' hurt range.
Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body's natural response, not against it.
How often should I get a massage?
Massage treatments varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be sufficient for you. However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly reduce to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent 60-minute sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place. Frequency of sessions should be discussed with your massage therapist after your treatment. The male therapist will have a better understanding of your particular needs.
If I want a really Firm massage should I see a male massage therapist?
There is a perception that men give stronger and deeper massages than women. According to the massage industry this is a myth. However, the feedback we receive from our clients at Elite Male Massage supports this belief, that men give firmer massages then women. In saying that, there are many male massage therapists who prefer to not work so deep. The same holds true for women.
Some therapists prefer not to give really deep sessions while others specialise in this area. If you are looking for a deep massage, it is best to simply ask the therapist if he does this type of work. During your session it is perfectly OK to give the therapist feedback if you would like a lighter or deeper pressure.
Can I talk during my MASSAGE session?
The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. Many therapists discourage talking in hopes that you will relax, let your mind float free and enter a state of massage bliss. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking and as the massage progresses, enter a more quiet state of relaxation.
The important issue here is that there are times when you need to speak up. If the male massage therapist is doing anything to make you uncomfortable, you should let him know immediately. Also, let him know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper). If something is not working for you - speak up! It's OK!
Do I have to listen to relaxation or spa music during my massage?
While many therapists play slower, quieter, 'new age' type music, you can choose to have different music or no music at all. Studies have shown that music under 60 beats per-minute has a calming, relaxing effect on the body and therefore can enhance your experience.
However, while this may be true, any music you like to listen to while you relax can be listened to while you get a massage. If it relaxes you and you enjoy it at home, why wouldn't it do the same during your treatment? Ask your therapist what music he has to offer or if it is ok to bring your own from home.
How will I feel after my massage treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days.
If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day - much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness. After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body's tissues hydrated and healthy.
How many sessions will I need?
Every person is unique and different. This will depend on you aim and goals for massage therapy. It may take one session or it may take several. You can discuss your treatments with your male massage therapist after your first session.
When should I not get a massage?
There are few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying a massage. You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold or flu and any contagious skin infection. Your male massage therapist will need to adapt his massage techniques from conditions, such as arthritis and osteoporosis. If you have cuts or burns the area will be avoided completely. With some conditions it is a good idea to get an approval from your doctor before you receive a massage treatment. It’s always better to be on the side of caution.
What if I fall asleep during my massage?
It is not uncommon for many clients to fall asleep on the table during a massage. The warmth and release of tension relaxes them right to sleep - especially after a long day at work.
What if a massage wasn't quite what I wanted?
Every massage therapist has their own style, their own approach to massage, the strokes they like to use, and the depth they like to work. Some prefer a more clinical approach, some a more personal approach. Not every client clicks with every massage therapist. The key is to find one who can deliver the type of massage you like best. When you find one you like, stick with them and sing their praises.
Can I claim health fund rebates?
Most Australians with private health insurance currently receive a rebate from the Australian Government to help cover the cost of their premiums. Elite Male Massage no longer offers health rebates.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you are unable to keep your appointment, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible. This allows us to find a more convenient time for you as well as fill your time slot with another client. All cancellations must be received at least seventy two (72) hours before the start time of your appointment. All appointments cancelled with less than seventy two (72) hours are subject to a cancellation fee equal to the full price of your scheduled service. Please read our Terms of Service. No shows will also be subject to the full fee for the service booked. We understand that unexpected circumstances do arise. For all other emergency cancellations, cancellation charges are at management’s discretion. Thank you for understanding that our time is our livelihood.
What is included in the session time?
A session consists of massage, time for you to dress and undress and time to communicate with the therapist to make your massage truly customised. Each time you visit Elite Male Massage, we will discuss your treatment. This is done to ensure each and every massage session you receive from us meets or exceeds your expectations.
How much should I tip?
Many clients are unsure if or how much they should tip their massage therapist. We recommend you think of your massage therapist as you would a waiter in a restaurant. Tip to reflect your appreciation of their massage service. It is not compulsory to tip.
